The Twelve Days of So You Don't Have To: Silent Night, Deadly Night

January 10, 2018  /  Dawn Humphrey

Killing a podcaster's patience, one ill-concieved flash-back at a time.

Killing a podcaster's patience, one ill-concieved flash-back at a time.

From December 25th through Jan 5th, the world celebrates the 12 Days of Christmas with Saints, carols, and a song featuring a LOT of presents. But the Women In Caskets have their own twisted version of the holiday. 12 Days. 1 - No, 2 - Holiday Horror Movies. Dawn's Last Nerve.

Welcome to the annual 12 Days of So You Don't Have To. This year featuring the, ahem, classic, Silent Night, Deadly Night - and eventually its sequel. Because there's so much not there, we had to go find more to pad out the runtime. And regretted it immediately. Someone should be PUNISHED.

Here is a lovely master post so you can find all twelve episodes in one easy place.

Check out the musicians behind our holiday intro and outro music:

Intro: Dance of the Sugar Plumb Fairy by Millstones (Electrohouse Remix) by millstones.
Outro: Dance of the Sugar Plumb Fairy by Zach Gibson

2017 was a stellar year for horror and what better way to kick off 2018 than to take a look back at the best. After much deliberation and a few small arguments, the Women In Caskets would like to offer you their top ten horror films of 2017.

And a few honorable mentions.

And a couple of movies they actually hated.

And a look back and some Fantastic Fest 2017 favorites that they look forward to in 2018.

And that one film that doesn't fit anywhere else.

But mostly the top ten.

Happy Holidays!

In honor of the season, the Women In Caskets take a long overdue look at a previous Fantastic Fest Favorite, Better Watch Out (formerly Safe Neighborhood). It's a ho-ho-horrific home invasion gone completely bonkers and we thought it was a ton of fun.

Thanks always to The Shape for the intro and outro music. Now also featuring, "Fritz Was Here" by YoshiBlade (via OCRemix).

Episode 59: Interviewing the Haunters!

October 25, 2017  /  Dawn Humphrey

Happy Halloween!

In honor of this most wonderful of holidays, Jen and Dawn sat down with Director Jon Schnitzer and legendary Haunt actor Shar Mayer to talk about the Fantastic Fest stand-out, Haunters: the Art of the Scare.

In this extra-special chat, Jon and Shar talk about the tenacity required when making a documentary from hundreds of hours of footage shot over years, the luck involved in finding music for said documentary, and take a moment to thank Evangelical Christians for their contributions to the haunt industry (no, really, look it up).

All that and more, plus more information on the Women In Caskets livestream for Extra Life. For more information on the Nov. 4th event, and how you can contribute, go to our website!

Thanks always to The Shape for the intro and outro music. Now also featuring, "Marowak's Revenge" by YoshiBlade (via OCRemix).

Extra Life 2017

October 19, 2017  /  Dawn Humphrey

extralifeheader.png

In 2008, an intrepid group of gamers came together to raise some money for children's hospitals. Nine years and more than $30 MILLION dollars later, they're still going strong with the annual Extra Life marathon to support the Children's Miracle Network of hospitals.

This year, on November 4th, from 10am to 10pm CST, we're joining them with a livestream of horror games and whatever else our evil minds can concoct. We've been wanting to do something like this for a long time and we're beyond thrilled to join up for a good cause.

"But Dawn and Jen, great Mistresses of Mayhem," you may ask, "How might I help you in this most charitable endeavor?" (Or something to that effect, you can put it in your own words.)

We're glad you asked!

  • Follow JenBrownPlays on Twitch - that's where our livestream will be. (It's also where Jen broadcasts a weekly stream of her mostly failing at playing games. It's amusing, you should try it.)
  • Go to the Women In Caskets Extra Life Page and make a donation. We have a goal of $500, if we make it, we'll do something special. If we go past it, well, shoot, we'll just have to make something that much more special. Your donations are tax deductible and 100% of the funds raised go to local hospitals - in this case, Dell Children's Hospital here in Austin, TX.
  • You can go to our Facebook or Twitter pages and suggest games for us to play. Or suggest them here, we're not picky. We won't be able to go the full 24 hours, but we'll go as long as we can with as many games as we can. (No Desert Bus, we promise, although Desert Bus for Hope is another AMAZING charity that deserves your consideration.)
  • Spread the word. Share our Tweet, Facebook post, this post, anything to raise awareness.
  • Look at the other contributors! A lof of you found us through Jen's work at Rooster Teeth and they do it up big every year. A lot of other streamers, 'casters, and YouTubers participate, so if we're not your cup of tea, someone else might be.

We'll post a schedule closer to the date when we have our plans nailed down, but until then, we're shilling for donations.

Do it for the kids.
